You have holidays in March and looking for where to go? There are many web sources that can help you on the way. As to me, March is the most difficult month of a year because of its bad, always changed weather and just the common ordeals of winter season:-) It’s too long, don’t think?

However, I’m up already to make a breakout then checking for different travel sites I see that the choice is truly wide. Now, all what I have to do is just to make a decision; when, where and how I want to be out of touch with this routine of reality.

If getting it roughly I know what I rather want:

1. Far from big cities and crowd of people.
2. Forests but not wilderness, lakes full of fish, not too high mountains, birds in the sky and finally fresh air of course to breath, to watch the beauty and think about nothing.
3. Silence, silence and silence.

When you book a holiday in the traditional manner the staff in the travel agent will usually try to up sell you some kind of travel insurance package deal. If you decide to book a holiday online then you will often be automatically opted in to buy a policy with your holiday at the checkout.

Cheap travel insurance policies offered at the time of buying a holiday are often not the best deal but travel companies get away with this as it quite a casual sell to someone who is often upbeat and in a great mood as they have just booked their holiday.

While the saving might not be huge it is often better value to decline the insurance offered with your package and opt for a separate standalone insurance policy which you can usually find online.

Even though the saving might not be massive when you decline the up sold insurance package you may find that the level of cover provided with a stand along insurance package is much better, this is something that the travel agent counts on you not investigating when taking a policy from them at the same time as a holiday.

In the most basic sense when you take out a travel insurance policy you want to know the value of cover provided to you for your luggage and for medical expenses. In addition to this it is a good idea to think about who is providing the insurance policy (as a general rule you are much better off with someone who you have heard of!) and who underwrites this policy.

If you really want to make sure you are getting a good deal it’s also worth searching online for some reviews from people who have had to make claims on the policy before as one true way of find out how good a policy of provider is would be to check the opinions of people who have had to make a claim against them in the past!

Island Hopping: Where to Go and What to See in the Caribbean

If you are scouring the Internet looking for a deal on a mid-winter vacation, you have probably noticed an endless virtual stream of swaying palm trees, beaches and turquoise water. This is the time of year that the Caribbean casts its magical spell, tempting you to escape the shovels, snow-scrapers and office politics for sun-kissed beaches and azure skies. Cruise deals are abundant. It is time to trade in your winter coat and boots for flip-flops and a swimsuit. Caribbean cruise deals are extensive and easy to find. However, choosing which islands to visit can be more difficult. Contrary to popular belief, not all Caribbean nations are the same. Each island has its own sensibility. If you find yourself island hopping this winter, here are 5 must-see places to stop.

1. San Juan is like drinking light beer. It is the Caribbean, but it feels like southern Florida. San Juan is not only a great starting point for its sense of familiarity, but also its gambling. There are several hotel casinos in Old San Juan. These casinos are extremely popular with tourists, so remember that they will get crowded.

2. If shopping is your passion, a stop in the U.S. Virgin Islands is imperative. St. Thomas has some of the best duty-free shopping in the Caribbean, and there are over 100 jewelry stores in downtown Charlotte Amalie. Admire the capital’s Dutch-influenced architecture as you shop for a deal on an engagement ring.

3. Take a dingy ride over to Jost Van Dyke, part of the British Virgin Islands, and dock at the Soggy Dollar Bar. This floating bar is famous throughout the Caribbean. The painkiller, a famous rum drink throughout the islands, is believed to have been invented here.

4. No trip through the Caribbean has even begun without docking in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Negril and Ocho Rios may be the current hotspots, but the quartz-white, horseshoe shaped beaches in Montego Bay are the best in the world.

5. Stop in St. Lucia to see the famous Pitons. These unforgettable, volcanic mountains provide a stunning natural backdrop for romantic photos.

Staying at a hotel while on vacation or holiday can be an uninteresting and unexciting experience when dealing with the typical check-in process, drab room décor, and room service. Most of the time, your adventure is outside of the room, and you use your hotel room for just sleeping. However, there are some hotels that make staying in one of their rooms, an adventure and vacation in itself.

1. Giraffe Manor
The Giraffe Manor, located in Nairobi, Kenya, is a giraffe lover’s paradise. Giraffes are free to roam everywhere on the grounds of the manor, and interact with guests daily. They can be seen from your window, or even at the front door of the manor. Don’t leave your food on a table anywhere near a window. A giraffe may just poke their head through your window, and snatch it.

2. Beckham Creek Cave Lodge
Situated on 280 acres in Parthenon, Arkansas, the Beckham Creek Cave Lodge is an actual cave dwelling. Each room has natural cave walls and exquisite furnishings. You will have the best of both worlds, while being surrounded by nature, but with the amenities of most modern hotels.

3. Hotel Kakslauttanen and Igloo Village
Located in Finland, the Hotel Kakslauttanen and Igloo Village will make guests forget that it’s 30 below zero outside. Each guest igloo is made from special thermal glass and is kept at a comfortable room temperature. During the winter months, guests are not only treated to phenomenal views of the night sky, but also have front seat views of the Aurora Borealis.

4. WagonStays Luxury Escape
Guests will step back in time and relish in the history of frontier life at the WagonStays Luxury Escape, located in New Zealand. The covered wagons have a rustic feel, but with a dash of luxury. There is a cooking stove right in your wagon, as well as an outdoor stove to have your own personal cookout.

5. The Liberty Hotel
The Boston hotel is a luxury accommodation with a twist. It used to be a jail. It has kept most of the original framework and bars on the windows for that special jailhouse touch.

If you want to get away to one of the most beautiful European cities this summer that is brimming with culture, history and architectural marvels then Florence is the perfect choice.

This city, nestled in the picturesque region of Tuscany in northern Italy, is regarded as one of the must-see destinations in the world.
The Duomo di Firenze is one of the most iconic buildings in the heart of the city, as this stunning cathedral dominates the skyline.
Built during the Renaissance period, which started in the city, it really is an oustanding architectural feat and should be seen inside and out.

If you want to do a spot of shopping, Florence has a number of high quality boutiques and of course the Ponte Vecchio has some of the best shops for buying gold and jewelry in the world.

These areas will have plenty of tourists about especially in the peak of summer, so if you want to get of the beaten track there are a number of spots to get a true taste of Florence.

The Piazzale Michelangelo is a large square up on a hill next to the Arno river and is a perfect place to get some impressive views of the Ponte Vecchio, Duomo and the rest of the city.

Florence was the home of the great Leonardo da Vinci and a number of his pieces can be seen in the Uffizi.

This world renowned art gallery boasts pieces by Michelangelo, Raphael and Sandro Botticelli is one of the most popular attractions in the city so prepare to queue, especially in the busy summer period.

As with most cities in Italy, Florence is full of restaurants but try to eat away from the busy tourist spots and visit areas like Sata Croce which boasts top excellent eateries.

There is so much to see and do in Florence it’s almost impossible to fit everything in but no matter, it’s the prefect excuse to back again anyway.

If comedy, rather than travel in Italy, is more your thing, check out Fosters’ new online videos featuring Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.

It may be tempting to opt for a large campsite where your kids will have plenty of room to play ball games, where perhaps there will even be a pool and where there are plenty of showers and toilets. However, the reality can often be disappointing. Big is not necessarily beautiful: the pitches may be so close together that letting off steam is impossible and the queues for the loos can be every bit as large as the blocks where they are situated.

It was the disappointment of a site that looked more like an internment camp than a campsite that motivated Dixe Wills to write his book “Tiny Campsites”. Being a bit of a camping aficionado but believing that small is beautiful, Dixe Wills quickly realised that there was no book giving details of small campsites. Spotting the gap in the market he set about writing his own and stayed in each of the 75 sites appearing in the book. What is even more impressive is that Dixe Wills covered the two thousand miles on his bike.

Each of the sites is one acre or less and they are situated in England, Scotland and Wales. Because he was writing his own book he was able to include all sorts of information that he felt he wanted to know as a camper, such as where to get a good pub meal and what change you need for the showers.

Sadly the author discovered that it is not just large sites that can be grim. There are a few tiny horror stories out there too but following Dixe Wills’ recommendations should guarantee a good camping experience. Whether you are looking for somewhere in Cornwall or Yorkshire, Gwynedd or Galloway it is likely that Wills will have done the homework for you.

Ultimately, whether your campsite of choice is big or small, take along your best waterproof clothing and waterproof trousers, as we all know how quickly the British summer can turn!

Camping can be an exhilarating experience, even with the associated hassle of putting up all your camping equipment on the first day! The enjoyment mainly comes due to the fact you’re getting back to basics and the challenges this brings about. At one point, we were all fighting nature for survival but we have now grown used to the comfort and safety we all enjoy. By nature, we are now domesticated, so it is easy to be na?ve when going camping. Here is a list of health-associated camping accessories that you should bring to protect you and your fellow campers:

1. Water Filter
It’s a given that you should bring enough food and water to last you all for longer than you will be on your trip for. Hunger and dehydration are fatal when you are far from civilisation and disaster can happen at any time. You could find yourself without fresh water due to an accident; at this point you don’t want to risk dehydration. You could head to a nearby town to buy some more or you could bring a good water filter with you. If you are near a water source, it is vital to use a filter to remove harmful substances. Note that this is a last resort idea; if you are close to a town you should go buy some water but if this is not an option then a water filter is vital. Even if you are at a campsite, you can’t always trust their water supply, so a water filter is a great idea.
2. Sun Cream
Always be aware of the dangers of the sun. It doesn’t take a long stretch of time of unprotected exposure for you to burn. Even in overcast conditions, UV rays can make it through to hit your skin. High levels of exposure to UV rays can cause melanomas and develop cancer so it is extremely important that you protect yourself. Going camping, there is a good chance that you will be spending a lot of time in the sun, so make sure that it is applied plentifully, often and 15-30 minutes before you go out in the sun. The sun is strongest between 10am and 2pm, so try to avoid prolonged exposure during this time. If you are going hiking, remember that increased elevation comes with increased intensity of sun rays.
3. First Aid Kit
This should be enough to cover the little bumps and scrapes you or your children may suffer but should also be prepared for bigger emergencies. The basics should include: bandages, tape, antiseptic wipes/cream, scissors, plasters, cotton buds and anything else you require. Don’t think of it as “hopefully we won’t have to use this”; be prepared by thinking of it as “I wouldn’t want to be hurt without this”.
4. Insect Repellent
This isn’t just about getting rid of the annoying insects; some insect bites can cause allergic reactions which can be really dangerous if you are in the wild and underprepared. A good insect repellent will make sure this does not happen and will also save you from the irritation of scratching these pesky bites.
5. Hand Sanitiser
Nature isn’t clean and there can’t be any guarantee that the soap you use will get rid of all the dirt and bacteria that is out there. Hand sanitiser is much more effective at killing the bacteria so you are spreading it around less. This is particularly important before meals so you don’t spread the bacteria to the food you are handling or sharing with others. Aside from eating, it is also important to sanitise your hands regularly so it makes scratching your face or holding hands a lot more hygienic.
